Morpurgo argues that the United Kingdom far from being ‘united’ has been a divided kingdom for some time. The hope is that the pandemic offers the tantalising possibility of uniting our society.
It is quite an understatement to say that the last few weeks haven’t been easy for employers and employees alike. We have all had to come to terms with job losses, working from home and an obliterated employment market. Nonetheless Hunters Recruitment has seen glimmers of hope. There is financial support available from Government, and taking politics out of the equation our leaders have reassured us that we are in this together and that people and businesses will be supported. Now is the time to trust. Hunters Recruitment has seen heroic leadership from businesses who are alert to opportunities to hire incredible staff. Certain industries are the critical life-blood of our nation and now is their chance to shine.
We are seeing a work force alive to the challenge of adapting. Temporary Workers have turned their energies into food production and logistics. We have been contacted by candidates who are keen to offer their services to supporting the NHS or working with the sick or frail. We are all learning to be flexible and to value the common good. Maybe we are starting to see a greater appreciation for teachers as we battle to educate our children at home.
Hunters understands that whilst the employment market is understandably in the doldrums right now and maybe for some months still, we are learning to adapt and we are buoyed by our mission: recruitment and therefore work seekers serve an essential ministry in these times of crisis. One by one, slowly at first but with increasing vigour industries and enterprises across the nation are realising and valuing what they can offer to support and unite. A Cause for Hope?
