So, you want to be an “Accounting Technician”?
Hunters’ Career Profile
An Accounting Technician works within a company and will process and pay invoices, record receipts and payments, and reconciles bank transactions.
A career as accounting technician is a path open to a great many people, although graduates may choose to progress to qualify as a chartered accountant. You will need to be numerated, ideally with a decent grade in Maths. You should be secure in your IT skills and be able to boast a forensic attention to detail as this is not the sort of career that can tolerate mistakes.
Typical Sussex salary range: £19,000 – £25,000
It may be useful to study a relevant qualification such as AAT. This stands for Association of Accounting Technicians. Your local college should offer this course. Level 2 should be the minimum standard, but one can study as high as Level 4.
Hunters’ finds that most clients also favour some work experience in addition to a qualification. Accounts Administrators or Accounts Assistants or Purchase Ledger assistants sometimes progress to become Accounting Technicians, and thus enjoy a corresponding rise in salary.
