“Great ambition is the passion of a great character.”

Napoleon Bonaparte

This latest blog emphasises the importance of character in the job application process.

A cv alone cannot win a person their next job.  All forward-thinking employers want to interview people with a positive personality, and this applies to every position.  What sets one candidate apart from another?  These thoughts apply to every aspect of the recruitment process from cv/covering letter to interview and follow up.

Drive – demonstrate how much winning this job means to me.

Determination – what am I able to offer my new employer/what added value can I bring to this post?

Ambition – where do I see myself in terms of career in the next 5 years?  A forward-thinking company seeks out candidate whose ambitions match those of the company.

Energy – am I prepared with examples of how I have gone the extra mile?

Decision-making – can I demonstrate that I have made sensible career and life choices?  This even applies to the subjects I chose at school and my decision to either attend or not to attend University.

Of course, books have been written about this, so this is just a snap-shot summary of the universal qualities of character most employers are telling me they are looking for above all things.
