Tweaking your cv really works

Men are my hobby, if I ever got married I’d have to give it up.

Christina is Hunters’ Resourcer/Administrator ultimately destined for a high-flying Law degree.  She presents an amazing cv.  But only recently has her cv come to the attention of the top Law firms – since she went on a cv writing course, and since she subsequently tweaked her cv.

She made just a few subtle, but powerful changes, and in this latest blog we discuss one tweak that she made.

Christina has learned that the “Interests” section is now considered of paramount importance, and is one of the first sections that recruiters will scrutinise.  Avoid generic interests such as “cinema, socialising with friends, sport.”  Instead, focus on achievements within ‘interests’ to demonstrate you are a rounded and success-orientated person.

Rather than mention ‘sports’, outline your achievement within sport.  “I captained a rugby team to second place in the Sussex division,” demonstrates leadership, communication and team-working skills.

Rather than “I enjoy music”, outline your success within music. “I have recently passed Grade 6 violin, representing my College at national level,” demonstrates focus, commitment and team-work.

Finally, avoid the mistake of including “nights out clubbing” and “friends” within interests.  Imagine the horror etched across the recruiter’s face when they learn that their investment may be looking to burn the candle at both ends!
